Desmond opened his eyes and tried not to think about the blood running down his forehead or the throbbing around his ribs. Based on his pain levels, he had broken at least one.

He wasn’t sure if his captors had beaten him after he lost consciousness or if he had fallen over the side of the building when they knocked him out.
